Unsurprisingly, their Mercury Music Prize-nominated debut album, So Much for the City, dominates the track list with six contributions, including the Monkees-referencing Top 20 single "Big Sur," the infectious surf-pop of "One Horse Town," and the shuffling alt-country of "Hollywood Kids."Price: $

Apr 08,  · The debut album So Much For The City contains a number of promising songs (the opener, Santa Cruz, One Horse Town) but don't know about the whole length to Captivate. It is to be prices that The Thrills like to keep but not all their songs small compositions have irresistible melodies, which is a condition for such an approach/5().

There are moments when the Thrills produce some lavish, well-crafted pop songs: "Your Love Is Like Las Vegas" is a glorious uptempo anthem that features an inspired choppy guitar solo. Unfortunately, the slower songs on the album break up the uplifting momentum of the LP: "Hollywood Kids" and "'Til the Tide Creeps In" just drag along and aren't as successful as the simpler, jauntier numbers.

'So Much For The City' was their first album, released in , ten years later, I still regard it as one of the most playable CDs in my collection. This highly enjoyable debut, with it's s and s pop influences, went straight into the UK charts at no.3 and remained in the charts for 25 weeks, so 4/5(92).
